Frequently Asked Questions
Answering Your Questions about Disco Paws' Services
Will my dog be supervised?
Yes. Your dog will always be supervised and monitored for their health and safety by professional Animal Handlers and Certified Dog Trainers.
Does someone stay with the dogs overnight?
Yes! We do have an attendant on premises overnight.
Do you separate big dogs and small dogs?
We separate dogs by their temperament, both in regards to their personality and their current mood. Sometimes this may mean we also separate by size, but no matter what we will always do what we believe is best for the health and safety of your pup.
What if my dog doesn’t get along with other dogs?
Depending on what services you are interested in, we do have alternatives that do not involve any dog interaction. However, if your dog is aggressive or has a bite history, we may not be able to accept them at the facility. Please call us for more information.
Why does my dog have to be fixed to play with other dogs?
After six months of age, dogs begin to develop hormones that have strong and instinctual behavioral effects. These can lead to numerous safety issues when it comes to letting dogs play together. To avoid the chance of any problems, we require that dogs over 6 months of age be either spayed or neutered.
How many walks will my dog get during his stay?
If your dog is staying with us overnight, they will have a morning and evening walk each day. If you would like additional walks you may request them. If your dog is just with us for the day, we will not walk them unless requested. All requested walks are $5 each.
Will you feed my dog while they are in daycare?
If you would like your pet to have a meal while they are visiting for the day, you may request it when you drop off your pet. Each meal is $2.50.
Can you administer my pet's medication while they are staying with you?
Generally yes, but please call ahead to make sure we can accommodate your pet's specific needs. Each medication administration is $5.
What should I bring with my dog when I drop them off?
Disco Paws is a fully equipped facility so there is no need to bring anything with your pet. However, you are welcome to bring anything that you believe will make your pet’s stay more comfortable!
How far in advance do I need to make my reservation?
We will always try to accommodate your request as best as possible, but the earlier you can make your reservation the better! We do not take walk-ins for daycare, boarding or grooming appointments, so please always call ahead.
Will my dog be in a cage while boarding?
We have both crate and non-crate options available for boarding. Typically we use the non-crate option unless requested otherwise. Please let us know your preference when you make your reservation.
Can I pick up my pet from your facility after you close?
No. We have limited hours for pick up and drop off. If you need to change your scheduled pick up day or time, please call to let us know, additional daycare or boarding charges may apply.
Why do you remove my pet's collar or harness before letting them play in the daycare?
It is always safest for dogs to play "naked". Tags and other gear can be hazardous during play time.
Why don't you give the dogs toys in the daycare?
For the safety of all our pups, we don't allow toys in a group setting so as to avoid any potential resource-guarding issues.
Do you accept any size dog for boarding and daycare?
We have two locations in Astoria, Ditmars Blvd and Steinway St, with different policies. Our Ditmars Blvd location is smaller than our Steinway location so at Ditmars we only accept small dogs (40lbs or less). At Steinway we can accept dogs up to 70lbs.
Do you allow all breeds of dogs?
While we love all breeds of dogs, we are unable to accept pit bulls in our daycare. Their temperament is best suited for play in small groups, large open spaces, or one-on-one. We do not currently have the space or resources to provide this type of play.
